Stop the Cycle

This is me when I was 3 years old.  This poem is for her.

Dear daughter,

I love you and I don’t want to scare you,
but when you feel your heart grow attached,
realize he may not love you back.

He may know just the words to say,
to make you think your only option is to stay.

He may have learned down the road,
how to manipulate and use for his own benefit.
He may seem like your knight in shining armor,
but the second you need him he won’t have any of it.

He may always let you down,
he’ll never be around.

So, in this life sweet daughter,
be your own knight in shining armor.

Put on your crown and hold your head high,
you’re no longer bound by all of his lies.

Learn your worth and love yourself unconditionally,
work to heal yourself emotionally and spiritually.

Then God will shine his light upon you,
and make your every dream come true.

With unconditional love,
your Mother.
